The winter months give us a lot of things here in the UK: the cold temperatures, rain, fog and grey skies. However for us photographers, it's actually a pretty fantastic time of year for portrait photography in the Great Outdoors!
This is mainly thanks to the even-toned natural light it provides. It's not too bright that we need to worry about shadows and the glare of the sun through the lens and it's also not too warm a climate where we need to worry about our lenses misting over in the heat of the sun.
Another thing about winter photoshoots is that it's a great excuse to still get out and about and enjoy what nature has to offer us. It's actually really refreshing to wrap up warm, get outdoors as a family unit and make the most of the drier days with a lovely dog walk and beautiful family memories in the form of your photos!
One family I was happy to meet and capture fairly recently were the Westgarth's.
The daughters of the family very kindly treated their parents to one of my Gift Voucher Experiences (find out more about these here), as a wedding anniversary gift.
I met the lovely family including the adorable member 'Poppy' the Cockapoo! She really was a bundle of energy and fun and I could tell instantly how much they all adored each other.
We met over at the beautiful Hylands House, which is part of the Hylands Estate in Chelmsford Essex. It's a really popular spot all year round, especially for dog walkers and families, thanks to it's acres and acres of open green areas and pretty picnic spots.
I am happy to share with you some of the gorgeous shots we got from our photography session below and hope you like them as much as myself and the lovely Westgarth family do!
